Writing Your Representatives

I am always recommending that you write your representatives. It is very important that they hear from you now during this final push for passage of the health care reform bill.

No, this bill isn't what most of us want, but it has enough good things in it to make it worthwhile. It can be the first step in reform and sometimes we have to crawl before we can walk.

Here is a video on how to make your letter stand out, so before you write your representative please watch it. I hope you will then be motivated to write your rep. one last time. (Or more, if you are a passionate about this issue as I am.)

We should stress that this should be enacted speedily so the president can get on to the vital issue of creating jobs.

If any of you are looking for a job, and are low income, you might check with your local employment office to see if your area is beginning to put together the new job assistance program that Obama has initiated. I understand that the government will pay the employer part of the wages of every new person he/she hires. Apparently, they will match the applicant and the employer.

My daughter, who has been hunting for a job for over two years, told me about it. She was quite excited and has hopes that she will find work through this program. The minute she heard about it she rushed right down with an application and a resume. It is just getting underway in her county.

Thanks for the video, and I'll do it. I am not impressed with my representative. I always vote for him, because he's a little better than the Republican who runs against him. But not much.

You are a fighter, Darlene. And an inspiration.

20th Century Woman - Thank you for the compliment. My Representatives are the pits, but I write them anyhow. (Other then Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, my Senators are the worst. John McCain and John Kyle.)

Our best reps are in the House of reps. Otherwise, they are mostly not so hot. Our County Council rep is good but can't prevail against the general loony-tunes state of local politics here.
God I hope we get a jobs program here soon. But even so, we have a critical mass of unemployable people.

I have written my reps but they are for the bill so it is like preaching to the choir. I still cannot believe it when someone says they do not want the government managing health care...they actually feel safer when it is in the hands of the insurance companies whose only motive is profit. The same way they felt safe when financial investments were totally in the hands of bankers and brokers!!

*Hattie - This program will only help the low income people. That's probably sensible since, without work, they will be on welfare so the government will be paying one way or another. But the rest of the unemployed will continue to suffer.

*Tabor - Some people have a way of shooting themselves in their feet, don't they?

That jobs program is a blessing for the low income families...I hope people are aware of it. Too bad it can't help the gazillions of other unemployed...but it's something. I know my share of people out of work. Thanks Darlene. ~Joy

I loved the video. Having been talking (or attempting to) with representatives, I found it interesting. I just posted my current nightmare.

great post, darlene...but my soul is in tatters....just when i think i can't hate the republicans any more, there are things like this article that push me over the edge. i DON'T like hating...it hurts me way more than it does them. but what to do? how can we combat this ugliness without succumbing to it ourselves?

*X-treme English - You are right. Hatred hurts the hater. I know it's hard not to feel anger when we see our country being sold down the river for political gain, but I guess we just have to realize that their brains are wired differently than ours and assume they can't help being the way they are.
