Happy Birthday Sarah

Happy Birthday, Sarah
Now You Are Fifteen

It makes me so very happy to realize that the beautiful baby I once held has grown into the lovely young lady that I see in this picture.  Our family was blessed when you joined us.  The nurse told your Mom that you were a beautiful baby and she was right.  She went on to explain that, while all babies are cute not all are beautiful.  I just watched a movie I made of your first days on earth and she was right. Most of all, you are beautiful inside where it counts.

I am so proud to be your grandmother,  Sweetheart.  You have so many talents and, best of all, you are so very nice.  I love you dearly.   May you have as many birthdays as I have enjoyed  and may they all be happy ones.

Isn't it amazing how much more mature youngsters look now than in our day? In our day a 14-year-old was a kid who would get smacked down for a touch of lipstick.

*Anonymous - I'm 86 years old and I wore lipstick at the age of 14 as did most of my contemporaries.

Darlene--I'm sitting here laughing. I don't know how it was where "Anonymous" or you grew up; but some of us at the age of 14 were just starting to realize that women wore makeup. (By then I lived in Kansas City MO.)
I think that I started wearing makeup when I went to work for Boeing at the age of 21 - and quit (again, while working for Boeing) at age 36. Neither our daughters nor our granddaughter (28 years) wears makeup; but, many of our friends do. It's a personal choice these days. Thank goodness!

P.S. Your granddaughter is probably equally proud of you!

Happy B-day,Sarah!!!

You have a wonderful grandmother :)

*Cop Car - I remember putting lipstick on for my 9th grade prom. That was the first formal dance I attended (an nearly the last one). I was 13 years old then. I grew up in Colorado Springs, so maybe we were the original sluts of our time. ;-)
Of course, lipstick was about the extent of our daring.

*Looking to the Stars - Thank you for the lovely compliment. You made my day.

Darlene--You have me ROTF LMAO, you slut, you! *laughing much too hard* We didn't have anything to mark the end of our 9th grade - or, any other for that matter until we were graduated from high school.
I did go to a dance in the basement of a church when I was 13 (his mother called my mother to arrange such a thing!) and I did wear "heals" and a strapless gown; but, I'm pretty sure I didn't wear lipstick. Maybe it's just a case of poor memory, though.
Thinking back, I think that the first time a boy actually asked me out, himself, was when I was a senior in high school (age 16). A sophomore, who sat next to me in drafting class, asked me to a hay ride. Within a few months, I was dating college guys, and it was a whirlwind bout of dating from then until Hunky Husband and I started dating a couple of years later.
Perhaps "annonymous" grew up in a similar environment - an environment where we sluts did not wear makeup! ; )
