Guns or Butter?

In case you missed a great speech by our president last night, Move On posted it today.  You can see it by clicking on the following link.

I want to refer you to the following editorial in this morning's NYT.  It echoes my thoughts on gun control and is a sensible solution.

For those that say the genie is out of the bottle and there are so many guns out there we can never keep them out of the hands of criminals I want to refer you to a portion of this article that I found interesting.   It is in the next-to-the-last paragraph telling what Australia did to eliminate assault weapons and, therefore, reduce the number of murders.

If Australia and the UK can ban guns, we can too. Thanks for this post, Darlene....

I read that in yesterday's Times which we always buy when we go to town. An excellent article. Why aren't more people talking about gun control? Are we completely cowed by the NRA?

*Kay Dennison - I do too.

*Xtreme English - We can, but will we?

*20th Century Woman - I'm afraid we are. So sad. Money talks louder than the will of the citizens, it seems.

And it really worked. The Australian gun murder rate is very low.

*Hattie - Hooray for Australia.

One of the best speeches that I have ever heard.

*rummuser - Yes, our president hit all the right notes. I am sure it will go down in history as one of the great speeches. Even the sour conservatives are giving him kudos.
