Power To The People

This is what 'people power' can do.  Russell Pearce, Speaker of the House in Arizona, has been recalled.  For those of you not familiar with Arizona politics, he is the radical guy who exposed our state to scorn with his right-wing emigration legislation.  He has introduced other bills; some so radical that Governor Jan Brewer (no bleeding heart liberal) vetoed them.

The special election will be held in November.  There were 30% more signatures on the petition than needed so I do believe we will rid ourselves of one of the Tea Party numbskull's once and for all.

Making our voices heard works, but we have to let the politicians know how we feel first.  Right now there are many  bad puppets in our government and Wall Street is pulling their strings.   They are trying to do us in and make our country into a plutocracy.  The only way to stop them is by a massive noise from the voters.  Write, call, join protest groups, and march.  The wealthy power machine that is trying to take over our country and make serfs of 'we the people' can only be stopped by us.

Our founding fathers gave us a republic if we can keep it.  This is not the time to be apathetic.   Write or call your representative every time you read about another unjust law that is being considered in Congress and let them know you are watching and objecting.

We are on the brink of losing our freedoms, good education for our children and grandchildren, social services, Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security,  a decent wage, unemployment insurance, and a host of other services we used to take for granted.   Meanwhile our infrastructure is crumbling, China is rapidly overtaking us, and we no longer fund innovative new ideas that used to be the cornerstone of our country.

Am I trying to scare you?  You bet your sweet bippies I am.  This is crisis time and if I can inspire one person to contact their representative or to notify everyone on their mailing list to write or make that call I will be happy.  Don't put it off.  Do it today and keep on doing it until the word spreads and Washington hears our voices.  Write about every issue that you care about and do it often.  Here is a link to find out how to contact your representative.

How to contact your representatives

The Supremes are another scary bunch right now.  Thom Hartmann lays out a good case for impeaching Clarence Thomas.  This is another cause to take up.  Please watch the video.

The following video was posted in error.  You can watch it or not.  I can't seem to get rid of it.

And here is another video on the subject of People Power from Move On.  Tip of the hat to Nancy.

Justice Thomas's appointment to the US Supreme Court never made any kind of sense to me. This is one guy who, in my view, needs to be impeached.

*Cop Car - I couldn't agree more. I always believed Anita Hill and I think his actions since then confirm that he is a sleazy jerk. He was not qualified on top of that.

I am reading a couple of books right now, in French, written by a Newsweek Europe correspondent from Columbus, OH, about the differences between the US and France. In Paris they constantly go in the streets and protest – the politicians hear them. Often the protests are not about money but other things – like the dignity of their work and so on. Here it’s hard to see many people leaving their air conditioned homes – it they would though I think that we would see some changes. Too bad that it is not in the US culture to protest against their government – what is it? Are they too polite or they just don’t give a flip?

Darlene, I don't know if you've mentioned it before, but we can also join "the people's moement ot amend the U.S. Constitution"--Move to Amend. See movetoamend.org

*Vagabonde - The masses here are apathetic and don't have a clue about what is going on and those that do are usually too busy to do anything about it. I wish I could put a burr under their saddle.

*Nana Lorena - Thank you for the tip on the petition drive to amend the Constitution. I followed your link and signed it. Actually, I hadn't mentioned it before because I didn't know about it. Unfortunately, it takes years to amend the Constitution and by that time the U.S. will be down the tubes.

Darlene,
I am SO GLAD to see this happening in your state! The entire nation has seen nothing but a bunch of vicious bullying tactics from these Republicans for far too long, and it's high time one of them gets his just rewards!

*Jack Jodell - Once in a while we win one.

I wish that we had the right to recall. Some efforts have been made but have fizzled out but now that we have a grand anti corruption stir moving the public, the next step could well be the right to recall.

Its good seeing the people win :)

I have been trying to comment on your blog for the last 2 days & I finally was able to :) Loved your post before this one!

Also, thanks again for the help on the unwanted emails. I got those 2 people blocked where they can't bother me anymore :)

Getting rid of Thomas was one of Anthony Weiner's holy grails. I signed his petition before he destroyed his life and have been trying to find out if anyone else is working on that. I've written about it, too. I wish everyone paid attention to what these people are doing.

*Runnuser - Good luck with that.

*Looking to the Stars - If it weren't for good friends like you I would give up blogging because the computer frustrations make my blood pressure go through the roof.

*Kay Dennison - Yes, there is another group promoting a petition to impeach Justice Thomas. I'll see if I can find it and if I do I will send it to you.

Good news and with 30% more signatures than needed no less. I think people are beginning to wake-up, albeit slowly, and to push back. Thanks for all the info. I will make good use of it.

*Leslie Parsley - Your blog always has the best information of any. I always learn something new. Use whatever you want to take from mine.

Sometimes, when I post on politics and government, I think I'm just singing to the choir. But the fact is that we need to encourage each other, loudly and often, to keep at it. Our time and effort is never wasted. And yours, today, encourages me when I am most discouraged. I did email my Representative today. My senators are sick of me, and I like it like that. We must keep up the effort.

Thanks, Darlene!

*Nance - I know that it gets discouraging to keep harping on the same things, but sometimes it does a tiny bit of good and it is therapeutic.

Finally, the "other" Arizonans (the ones in your corner, Darlene) have had a win!

Commenter Nance is spot on: we have to keep on nudging those people who represent us and signing all those petitions--and encouraging one another as you do here. Thanks!

*Naomi Dagen Bloom - It's getting harder to fight, but that's when we need to push harder.
