Lame Ducks and Dead Ducks

In our excitement over our President-Elect we forget we still have a sitting president - The Lame Duck.

Yes, George the terrible is still with us and will be for another two months. He isn't going gently into the good night, though. He is still trying to exert imperial powers. On a previous blog I wrote how he is trying to pardon his entire administration for any illegalities. Wire tapping is a felony. Torture is breaking our laws and international laws. Will GWB be held accountable? Don't hold your breath.

Much to my disgust, it appears that the Democrats will roll over and let him pull one last piece of nastiness
out of his bag . Oh woe! Alas and alack! I am coming to the conclusion that Russ Feingold, and Dennis Kucinich are the only Senators with a spine. (Henry Waxman in the House is also a courageous man) If only there were 60 more Senators like them. Sigh! The rule of law might as well be a dead duck thanks to the lame duck and his enablers.

This last piece of chicanery pulled me right off of cloud nine and my elation is tamping down. Watch Rachel Maddow and Jonathan Turley on this subject.

And now for a different subject. This time it's Rachel with Arianna Huffington and they are talking about the gossipy GOP.

.

After listening to both sides of the argument on the bail out of the Big 3, I have come to the conclusion that we really don't have a choice. To not do so would cause a ripple effect that would finish off the sinking economy. It would be at the bottom of a very dirty pond along with all of us. Much as we all hate rewarding incompetence, there are times when you have to bite the bullet and this is surely one of them.

This was great, Darlene....Thanks for posting these two videos. Ha...I never knew Arianna Huffington had a Greek accent!!! I'm still not sure I trust her, but thanks for letting us see her in a discussion with Rachel Maddow.

Yes, we're stuck with this lame duck president and whatever he may persist in doing to continue his agenda. Enjoyed your commentary, links and writing.

Re your comment on my blog about keeping busy as a way of coping with life -- I whole heartedly agree and continue to do so as I have all my life. Guess we've all honed similar skills which is probably why we've survived. Am staying indoors mostly as smoke from one of the Calif. fires has come close enough to corrupt my air. Kinda like the AZ dust storms I recall periodically sweeping in from the desert.

Thanks for the links and the great post, as always. I feel exactly the same way! Just please, let's get this next 65 days over as soon as possible and move on!

If we don't hold someone accountable for what went on it will likely be repeated.

Hello from Tabor's.

Mary Ellen, Yes, Arianna is of Greek origin and still retains an accent. During the Clinton administration she switched from being a conservative to a liberal. I think this happened about the time of her divorce.

Jo Ann, I hope those terrible fires end soon and you can breathe clean air off the ocean once more.

Sylvia, it will really be good to move on.

Colleen, thanks for visiting. I hope you will return. I will put the coffer pot or tea kettle on for you.

I watch Rachel's show also and saw that. This is definitely the administration that keeps on giving

Paul, May I add, "Don't let the door hit your backside on the way out." to your adios?

Rain, you are, as always, right.

Thank you Ernestine.

Well, yes, I believe that we do have a choice; but, then, I was against the original (now multiply changed) bailout. We need to take our lumps and get over it rather than plant the seeds of continued fiascos for decades to come.

Cop Car, I take your point, but if the auto industry goes down so do all the parts suppliers and the dealerships. When they go, the ripple effect will filter down to every retailer in every town because people will be too broke to spend. There goes the restaurants, dry cleaners, etc., etc. and that is called a Great Depression. We can't afford it.

I am against any bail out that doesn't have strings attached. The auto industry must agree to manufacture fuel efficient cars and the unions must scale back their demands.

Hi Darlene, I'm back and just got a chance to look in on your blog. Great video about the pardoning mess, but the other video is no longer available. Too bad.

Welcome back Gary, Sorry about the video. After all the trouble I went to posting it I think I will complain. ;)

Darlene, you are one smart cookie. I just found your blog and am catching up on "back issues." I rail a lot about politics but haven't tackled health care. (My "owner," whom I call The Madame, thinks that is better left to a human blogger. But having racked up some veterinary bills in my time, I think I might have at least a little perspective).

Toodle-ooo,
Henry
