May Flowers Arizona Style
Yesterday my neighbor called me to tell me her Cerius cactus was blossoming for the second time this year. I quickly grabbed my camera, got on my scooter and rushed over to take pictures. Cacti blossoms only last a few days so you don't have time to procrastinate. The only way to enjoy the lovely blooms is to capture them with your camera. Here are some of the photos I took.
I do not know the names of the other cactus, but they must be in the barrel cactus family. I tried researching on line, but the botanical names were daunting and lengthy. I was still unable to identify them so you will have to guess along with me.

OH, I love the pics and I love the picture in my mind, that I have of you on a scooter :)
Loved your answers on your meme :)
I can't tell you how wonderful it is that you came into my life. You are a very precious person :)
this brings back wonderful memories of when I was about 8 and I planted a cactus garden in my back yard. They were mostly barrel cactus growing wild around the area and I transplanted them. Wow...I guess I have always been a gardener!
Wonderful photos. I grow cactuses on my window sill, but of course here they never bloom. They know they are not where they belong.
They are beautiful!! I will have to pass the link to this on to my blog friend Naomi, who grows the most gorgeous cacti. She would love these.
Gorgeous flowers and photos. It is one of the joys of Tucson life and especially the night blooming cereus where the fragrance will fill a desert gully and you don't know from where it came but it's like being in Arabian nights for the exotic feeling from that perfume it sends out.
Your photos of the cacti are beautiful! (I would ignore scientific names and dub each of the plants as "a cactus".)
Would it be possible for you to post a photo of you an/with your scooter? I'm with Looking to the Stars in having a cute picture of you - in my mind.
Cop Car
P.S. The word verification that the system came up with for my comment is "drooter". That's pretty close to scooter!
*Looking to the Stars - You do say the nicest things. Thank you.
*Tabor - Cactus are tricky to plant because of the spires. You were a brave 8 year old.
*20th Century Woman - Yes, cactus require a lot of sun to bloom.
*Kenju - Thank you for sending the link to Naomi. Does she live in the desert?
*Rain - I have never been lucky enough to see a night blooming Cereus except in photos. The Cereus in my photo didn't have a scent.
*Cop Car - I will have to see if someone will take a picture of me on my scooter. I don't think it will be very cute, though.
What gorgeous cacti Darlene...stunning colors.
I'm also putting in my vote along with Cop Car for that picture of you on that scooter. And what do you mean it wouldn't be very cute? I beg to differ.... Hugs, Joy
Darlene,
I once had a Christmas cactus that bloomed every year for almost 20 years.
People used to ask me about how I knew how to take care of it. I always told them " I read the paper, and when it rains in Phoenix I water it."
*Joy - You just haven't seen me lately. ;-)
*Nancy - You saved a lot of water, didn't you?
Oh, those are fantastic shots, Darlene! I love them! And what beautiful colors! I would love to have some of those, but I suspect they might not care for the climate in Seattle. Hope you're having a great week!
Fabulous vibrant colours - I can almost feel the heat. Perfect drought resistant plants. I must get more of them.
