Fall Fell Flat

What is happening to my world?  I lived through a very hot summer just waiting for October when I could eat on the patio or sit in a chaise lounge and read a good book in the afternoon.  It didn't happen this year; at least not so far.  Last week we had a few nice days, but most were hot.  Yesterday was cool but too windy to be outside.  Today it is 51* and I will be moving my fleece warm- ups out of the spare closet and into my walk-in closet.   This is not our normal weather, but at least we are not under flood water or orange dust storms.

Well, gang, I am  sure that I am finally losing it.  I had two really bad nights and woke up at 1 am Thursday and never got back to sleep.  Several days ago I had looked at my calendar and realized that Thursday was my appointment with my doctor for a flu shot and my dentist to look at a tooth that is giving up the ghost.  It was also the day to post, along with everyone else, on Climate Change.

Even though I was spacey from lack of sleep I showered, got dressed and ready for my ride.  I had posted my climate change article the night before.  While waiting to be picked up I sat in front of my computer reading my mail.   I looked at the date on my time reference and, gasp, discovered that all of my Thursday activities were for NEXT WEEK!  Yes, you got that right -  I put those words in caps because I screamed them. What a doofus!

I didn't know whether to be terrified that this was the beginning of Alzheimer's or dementia or some other mental problem manifesting itself or just plain carelessness.  Whatever caused me to jump ahead a week in my thinking, it was not my normal, organized way of doing things.  I will leave you to your own conclusions, but I think I am missing a cog or two now.

Before I am completely gone I am going to post another 'take' on health care reform.  Now don't close this window  please read it.  I promise you won't be disappointed.

The American Medical Association has weighed in on the new health care package.

The Allergists voted to scratch it, but

the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but

the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

The Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception.

The Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.

The Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!"

The Pediatricians said, 'Oh, grow up!'

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness.

The Radiologists could see right through it.

The Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing.

The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and

the Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter."

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but

the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea.

The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and

the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

In the end,

the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the buttholes in  Washington

No, not quite. Welcome to the club of human beings. All of us goof up like that now and then. No big deal. Climate change? By now the monsoon should have long gone. It still has not. We had dry weather followed by excess rain fall and floods and everything is wonky in this part of the world too.

As I told you in my e-mail...we've all had doofus days like that. It kind of startles you at first, but I guess you just have to rewind and start over. Not getting enough sleep probably didn't help either.

Yeah...what happened to our wonderful FALL? I'm bummed! Where are those crisp, balmy days where you can smell fall in the air? It's been cold, rainy and windy...even the leaves aren't sure what they're doing. Many haven't even turned their beautiful colors here yet...they're confused. I dread the thought of plunging right into Old Man Winter and missing out on my Fabulous Fall. I hope something stops the fall of Fall Darlene...and fast! ~Joy

Don't kick yourself too hard...I have days when my brain is in fast forward due to a lot of work stress coupled with whatever personal stress in the tea leaves, and my "processor" gets overheated and screws stuff up.

The Healthcare zinger was perfect! Gave me a big belly laugh this afternoon on a cold, dreary, let's-skip-fall-and-go-right-to-cold day.

*Rummuser - Our monsoons were a bust. In my part of town we had one real storm with thunder and lightening (that we mistakenly call a monsoon) and another light rain. And that was it. Another year of drought, I fear.

*Joy - I have now red your e-mail and you are a sweetie. I wouldn't feel so idiotic except I got mixed up before I lost sleep and was a week ahead in my thinking for several days and didn't catch it.

*Cowtown Pattie - I don't even have the excuse of being under stress. Sigh!

Darlene, that kind of thing happens to all of us! Don't worry too much about it - I sure don't....LOL
Just be glad you realized in time.

No, you're not losing it -- or if you are, so am I! I'll go upstairs to get something and by the time I get there I'm wondering what I came up for! Drives me nuts! We've had lovely weather, cooler, but still sunny and very little rain and I'm enjoying that! Oh, and the Health Care zinger broke me up! Best laugh all day! And again, the doofus days are part of being where we are, but you surely aren't alone! I just shake my head and write notes to myself!!

Have a good weekend, Darlene!

Darlene,

Doofus days are OK. They make life interesting. Besides, this was just a way your system reminded you about next week's appointment.
(Just think. You could have remembered next week that you had to go this week )

And dont even mention the alzeimers stuff. It runs away from militant types like you, blogging your stuff.

And that medical stuff was just too much ....

Take care..

*Kenju - You're right. I would really have felt like a fool if I showed up for my appointment before discovering my mistake.

*Rummuser. I will check out your link. Thank you.

*Sylvia - Thanks for trying to make me feel better, but I think losing a week is more serious than forgetting what you went in a room for. I do that all the time, too.

*Ugich Konitari - You are too kind. Your response made me feel better, as did the others who made me feel like I might have a smidgen of a mind left.

Darlene, I did the opposite. I had an appointment for a heart test last and missed it. Whatever they told me I wrote down one week later. Anyway it all worked out.
You read about my car incident.
We are all right. You would think we would have less on our minds now and it does not seem like it.

I loved the last part of leaving it up to the buttholes in Washington :)

Our weather has been strange here in Colo. Fall is one of our favorite times and looking out my window now, it's snowing. But, you know Colo. just a wait an hour and the weather will change :)

I've had my share of doofus days, it is scary but don't be. Not getting enough sleep, I think, is a big factor in it. But, we all have them, no matter what age we are. Take care, kiddo :)

Very funny take on the medical people's view on health care reform. Dare I add, Speech-Language Pathologists just want to talk about it.

As for your getting a week ahead of yourself, I've had my share of "doofus days" like that on occasion. Can't recall specifics about the most recent one, but know there was one not too long ago. Now, what does that say about my mental state???

Yeah, and my sleep has been messed up, too. Sometimes I've brought it on myself and other times I'm not sure why it happened.

Fall is here in So. Cal. and I'm loving it. Sadly, it also usually means many areas get fires and we've had that, also.
