Progression of a Sunset

Last evening I noticed that the clouds were varied and had interesting shapes.  I thought it might make for a lovely sunset.  I grabbed my camera and went outside before the colors started changing.  The first photo is facing east as the setting sun turns the Rincon Mountains pink and then creeps up to tinge the cloud above it.  As I continued facing east the sky began changing and the white cumulus clouds turned gold as the darker clouds began turning pink.

A different area of the sky had it's own colors.  To the south the cumulus clouds took on a lovely rosy glow.   As the sun set I faced the west and took the last photo.

At last I was able to get the red sunset as the grand finale.

Tucson is surrounded by mountains.  The Rincons (first photo) are east, the Catalinas (with a ski slide) are North, the Tucson mountains are west and the Santa Ritas are south.  It makes for great hiking trails for those who are able and so inclined.

Sunsets and mountains are just two of the reasons I love living in Arizona.

Lovely photos, Darlene. Arizona's desert mountains and the vast expansive skies sunsets are reasons I, too, enjoyed living in Arizona.

I was glad to read at TGB's Sun., classical piece that you're 'hearing' and enjoying more music.

Beautiful photos. Sunsets and mountains are powerful pluses for Tucson for sure.

*Joared - Thank you. I am enjoying some music now, but it depends on whether it is new to me or not. My memory helps me identify the music with familiar pieces, but I am not sure whether I am hearing new music correctly. I suspect that I am not.

*Joy Des Jardins - Thank you, Joy, and you are welcome. :-)

*Rain - Thank you. It's easy to get nice photos with such a colorful subject.

And I for one am glad that you took those photographs. They are lovely. We too are very close to the Western Ranges of India and some really fantastic sky-scapes can be seen often. I am not very familiar with photography but posts like this are driving me towards becoming one!

we are all taking sunset photos. there really are some fantastic ones this year. The whole world is a beautiful place, I do so hope that we don't mess it up completely and leave nothing for those following us to marvel at.

Give me a good sunset photo anyday. Some people find them tacky. I myself never tire of them. They are awe inspiring. Thanks for the picts.

Beautiful.

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's clouds illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Whoops, this got left out:

Which is probably why clouds are so fascinating to me in the first place.

I do miss the mountains that were at my back doorstep in Albuquerque. Sunsets, fortunately, take place even in the flatlands. Beautiful photos, Darlene!

*Rummuser - The sky unites us no matter what part of this third rock from the sun we live on.

*Friko - I join you in hoping that we don't completely ruin this planet.

*Suzanne - Thank you for the visit. I do hope you will return. I'm glad you don't find sunset photos tacky.

* La Peregrina - Thank you for the Joni Mitchell words on clouds. Lovely!

*Cop Car - When I lived in New England I missed two things; mountains and blue skies. Now I miss red maple trees in the Fall. I guess each part of the U. S. has it's own unique beauty.

Your sunsets are very Maxfield Parrish as I often say. Lovely photos and I hope that you put some of them as wallpaper on your computer. My word verfication is 'hotter' oh my!

Darlene,

You are truly a wonderful photographer and we all get the benefit of your talent.

I have been in Arizona several times and am always amazed at the beauty of the place.

You have captured that final sunset picture at the peak of it's perfection.

Beautiful Darlene and as I suspected, your feed isn't working in my reader so I have a little catching up to do. I hope you're feeling a little better.

These are amazing sunsets. I too love the evening skies. alas, for the next few months the sun is at an angle difficult for me to capture with my camera, roll on spring.
