Just Musing

It is much too hot to think so I will just jot down random thoughts as they come to me.

Studies have proved that when an ideologue is shown facts that dispute his/her long held false beliefs it does no good.  In fact, the opposite is true.  Facts just cause the wrong headed person to dig in his/her heels and stubbornly cling to the faulty belief.    Now that's really depressing.

I just read Water For Elephants by Sarah Gruen.  If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it.  (I always arrive late to the party.  Since it's now a movie I am sure you all read it a long time ago.)

It is over 100* in Tucson now and I am still not complaining about the heat.  I just stay inside in my air conditioned house with the fans running.

I have a woman dermatologist now.  She is far superior to the men I have had in the past.   Hmmmm.

Will the ignorant Tea Party freshmen take the Republicans (and us) over the brink?  Their ignorance of the financial system is scary.

Maybe it should be mandatory for all candidates running for public office to pass a test on Civics and Finances before they are eligible to campaign.

Karl Rove is a master at developing misleading catchy names and sound bites.  The Democrats should find their own Karl.

Michelle Bachmann can't be a real person.  She must be a wind-up Barbie programmed with a ton of wrong facts.   Her lack of knowledge and fundamentalist religion should disqualify her for running for dog catcher, much less President of the U. S.    Unreal!

If I ever hear another Republican complain about judicial activism again I may punch them in the nose.   The Supremes are turning precedent upside down to achieve their ideological ends.

Clarence Thomas should be impeached, but it will never happen.

President Obama is finally getting his Mojo back and trying to educate the lethargic public.  Why does he always wait to the last minute to do it?  Will it be another 'too little, too late?'

Will we get our Social Security checks in September if the government defaults?

Will there be a revolution when people are hungry enough and tired enough of being screwed?

Will I live to see sanity in government?   I don't think any of us will,  no matter how young we may be.

Bernie Sanders for President.  Yes!!!

I read the Sanders speech and wholeheartedly agree. Perhaps we will live long enough.

"Facts just cause the wrong headed person to dig in his/her heels and stubbornly cling to the faulty belief."

How else to explain that although the number of scientists who believe that global warming is real and is at least partially human-caused, the number of non-scientists who have such beliefs is actually dwindling? Mind boggling!

*Anne - One can only hope.

*Cop Car - Add to the fact that the same crowd believe in Creationism, etc. and you see that the study is spot on.

Darlene: Beating the heat is about all one can do in Arizona some days.
Take care of yourself.

*Harrie - Thank you. I am pretty good at taking care of myself. [Lots of practice. ;-)]

Agreed, agreed, agreed. I am alarmed and depressed about the direction the country is taking.

Darlene--Thanks for understanding what I meant, regardless of the fact that I omitted a phrase. What I had meant to say was, "How else to explain that although the number of scientists who believe that global warming is real and is at least partially human-caused is high and growing, the number of non-scientists who have such beliefs is actually dwindling?"

*Hattie - Sorry for the typo in your blog name. It was inadvertent.

*Ellen - It is very alarming.

"Cop Car - Yes, I knew what you meant and thanks for further explaining it to those who may not be aware of just how foolish they are for doubting the reality. Sadly, some of the doubters are in Congress.

*Joy - Thank you and a happy Fourth to you, too.

It was 111 degrees here yesterday. Now that's hot!

Darlene--Yes, 111 degrees is hot! I'm not sure that we have reached that temperature, but I'm pretty sure that in May/June we had more triple-digit days than we normally have in the whole summer, when July and August are usually our hottest months. I love the air conditioning, and that we have a basement to which to retreat when the A/C isn't working.

*Cop Car - I have never understood why they don't build basements here. I guess it's because land was so cheap it was more economical to spread out. I would love a basement. It's only (ha ha) 97 here today and not supposed to get above 100. I am still staying inside.
