The thoughts that flit through this aging grey matter in the wee small hours are increasingly strange. Having taken my blood pressure pill and a prozac I settled down to watch the Republican candidates make asses of themselves. Such fun! Here are my thoughts on the line-up.
Rick Santorum - Just as silly and uninformed as he was in the Senate.
Herman Cain - Totally irrelevant.
John Huntman - The only one with a brain; too bad it was infected with conservatism.
Ron Paul - I had to reach for the mute button when he started his 'no government at all' blather. The old geezer is bordering on dementia.
Michelle Bachmann - Looking for the nearest exit sign because that is where she is headed.
Mitt Romney - Made a big mistake catering to the Tea Party because they don't want him; he's GASP one of those. You know, a Mormon. He's trying to recover by defending Social Security. Too little, too late Mitt.
The other Rick (you know, the Perry guy) - Now Mr. Good hair can't be for real. He's the front runner? The guy who makes 2 big gaffs in one statement? He said a whole slew of scientists are coming forward denying Global Warming. Huh? He couldn't name a single one, but he could compare them to Galileo. Stupid man; Galileo was for science and the Church were the deniers. He can't even get his lies right. But he really came up a cropper with calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme. He knows it's true because he wrote it in his book. Wow! I think he just threw all those old people who usually vote Republican off the bus.
That's my analysis and I'm sticking with it.
Tonight it's on to the President's last chance speech.
As an add-on. I wondered if anyone beside me was shocked at the loud cheers and applause when Perry bragged about having the highest execution rate in the country. To date he has presided over 234 executions; the largest of any governor in history (and some of those executed were proven innocent with later DNA tests). I guess that shows the kind of blood thirsty crowd that support these guys.

Nothing could have induced me to watch that, but I'm glad you did, Darlene. You have told me all I need or want to know.
I suppose we are doomed to get Mitt Romney for our next president. Let's hope he has his fingers crossed behind his back as he twists the truth to woo the Tea Baggers.

I think Mitt Romney may be the republican nominee, but I think President Obama can beat him in the general election.
That is if the President stops trying to be friends with a pack of jackels,comes to his senses, and proposes a plan that EVERYONE can get behind that will put America back to work.....

I didn't watch last night, and I don't think I can bear to watch tonight. Who'd have thought Obama would turn out to be so reluctant to fight for what he believes? I still hope he wins again, but I've lost some enthusiasm for him and the Democrats. That said, there's no place else to go.
Darlene--It didn't even occur to me that last night was the sparring match; but, I'm rather like Anne in wishing to avoid it.
Your add-on made me gasp. How despicable to cheer over killing people - regardless of how/why/etc.
The only good reason that I can come up with for backing Pres Obama if he is the Democratic nominee in 2008 is to keep more right wingers from being packed into the Supreme Court. We've gone too far that way. (And, no, I don't want a Supreme Court packed with left wingers, either!)
Cop Car
*Betty - I think we're all getting a bit jaded at this point. We are expecting Harry Truman and we got Mr. Nice Guy who just may come in last. But he's all we got so we have to stick with him.
*Cop Car - Wouldn't it be wonderful if the Supremes had the wisdom of Solomon? They are the last resort to keep injustice from happening and now they seem to be the dispensers of it.
I didn't get to watch the Republican shenanigans but your recap pretty well covers what I expected, so guess I didn't miss anything.
I share your view of Huntsman, but he's hooked up with the wrong bunch -- seems to me the closest thing that Party has to a moderate.
The most ridiculous of all is the Texas governor. Scary to me that he's even in the running and that so many might even give him serious consideration.
*Joared - I agree. It's a mystery why some people find his outrageous statements worth listening to. He is a scary guy with his ignorance and his gun fetish.

Well summarized, and I agree wholeheartedly with what you presented here. I watched the entire thing and was shocked at the deliberate lying by Perry and Bachmann and to hear the audience applauding Perry's execution record. These people are inhuman.
