An update and a New Toy

Thank you, dear friends, for the good wishes you offered in the comment section of my last post.  You do make me feel good and have boosted my spirits during this time of healing.  By the way, the recovery is coming along nicely.  A bar room brawl wouldn't produce a shiner as big as mine and my eye would make a good ad for the 'red eye' night flight; other than that, I am doing just peachy keen.

My daughter arrived at 11 pm Sunday night (poor girl) and was here to take me to the surgery center the next morning.  We hadn't been home very long when the new Apple laptop that I had ordered arrived.  Timing is everything because my tech savvy daughter immediately went to work installing all the software and setting me up with a wireless system.  She finished the job, along with a few other chores, on Wednesday afternoon when she had to head back to California.  She needed to be at work on Friday so it was 'no rest for the weary' for her.  In between being my 'Techie' and errand girl she kept me busy putting the peas on my eye (20 minutes every hour) and making me comfortable.  I do love being pampered.

If you are used to using Windows and then switch to a Mac you know the systems are very different.  I have a very slow learning curve now so I fear it is going to take me a long time to learn how to use the Apple.  I will be reading your blogs and will try to catch up, but I may not take the time to comment unless I need to put in my 2 cents worth.

With that in mind, here are some computer jokes for your amusement:

Darlene, I hope the shiner is improving and that you have a clearer view of life around you. An Apple a day was always good for ones health and I hope your brings plenty of fun and freedom.

We are blessed to have daughters ready to come to our aid when needed. I do hope your daughter was more gentle than 'Nurse Hitler'! ;)

Stay well and take care.

Glad you're mending nicely and that your daughter was able to help!!!

I've been in the thrall of Microsoft so long, I wouldn't know how to act with anything else so I wish you lots of luck.

Good to have you back!

*Grannymar - We are, indeed, blessed to have daughters who come to our aid. My daughter could be Nurse Ratchet when my hand strayed toward my eye or I bent my head forward. Our Nurse Hitler's were strict for our own good. ;-)

*Kay Dennison - Thank you. It's good to be back. I will need all the luck I can get with this Apple.

I bet you'll be emailing and commenting all over the place very soon, Darlene. Good luck with the recovery!

Darlene, I'm sorry I don't get to your blog more often, but for some reason, yours never moves up to the top of the bloglist when you post something new like all the others do. Consequently, I just assume that you're busy or traveling and not posting. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about the shiner! Glad it's getting better! And congratulations on the MAC! My son just got one yesterday and he's had his head in it all day! Hope you continue to mend and I am thinking of you.

Take care,

Sylvia

I'm so glad you're doing well Darlene....shiner and all. Your daughter took very good care of you and your computer. I wish you lots of luck getting use to the Apple; I'm sure it will all fall into place soon. Love, Joy

*Kenju - Boy, I hope so. I have spent the whole morning trying to find out where to go to 'full screen.' I guess I will be keeping tech support busy.

*Sylvia - I hope your son has better luck figuring out the Apple system than I am having. I don't know what the problem is with the settings on my blog. Just unlucky, I guess. I do wish I could help, but I am sure you know I am not a geek.

*Joy des Jardins - Thank you; I hope so.

Darlene - just to let you know I have thought of you through this whole process. Take care and continue to heal - you are one of the first to respond to my journal about 18 months ago. Thank you for the encouragment and special notes.

*One Woman's Journey - Thank you for thinking of me, Ernestine. Yes, I remember when you started blogging. It doesn't seem possible that it has been 18 months, does it? My how time flies when you're having fun.

So glad you're back online! I've missed your incisive posts and great jokes. Your computer jokes are right on target! Hope you get better every day.
And, thanks for all your comments on Birds. You've really added a lot to my blog, which is about to celebrate its first birthday(!).

I always thought Macs were so easy. Now they seem so complicated!
Glad you are healing nicely.

In August 1989, I broke down and bought a (luggable) portable computer - a 286 DOS machine, if that means anything to anyone. Of course, I was assigned to work on a program on which we used Apple products, exclusively, before my little beauty was even delivered; thus, I spent the next 7 months or so fully immersed in Apple/Mac computer work.

Then, I came back to Kansas, back to a company that had had NO PCs of any sort when I had left it in 1981 (who did?), but that had gone the route of 386 DOS machines (and IBM mainframes for our heavy technical lifting). Rapidly, we progressed through the 386 Windows, 486 Windows, etc machines, and I've not touched an Apple product since leaving the program on which I worked in the San Francisco Bay area. However, I thought my experience with the Apple products made my transition to Windows ever-so-simple.

Evidently, the two systems have diverged in the last 20 years. Who knew?

Glad you are doing well, Darlene. You were not gone long, at all. Great!

*Paula - Happy Blogiversary on your first year of posting on Birds On A Wire. It's a gret blog.

*Hattie - Actually, the Macs are simpler than Windows, but just different. I'm sure that once I get the hang of the differences I will love my Apple. At least my daughter assures me that this is so.

*Cop Car - There are s0 many different things with the Apple instead of Windows that my daughter told me the best thing to do was to forget everything I knew about windows. Add to that the fact that I am using a laptop with a touch plate instead of a mouse I am having trouble just typing in a sentence. I guess I will learn, but it is hard breaking old habits.

* 20th Century Woman - Thank you so much.
