Oops!

Yesterday I spent two hours copying a long list of jokes intending to post them. I had copied and pasted them from an e-mail. The original printing was so large that I was unable to post it, so I tried changing the font size. That usually works, but not this time. So I pasted it in Notepad. Still no luck.

The only alternative that I could find was to type the whole thing in my blog manually. I set the correct font and size and went to work. I had to change colors due to the changing jokes. Spacing became a problem, but, not to be deterred, I figured that out. I was determined that you were not going to miss these hilarious jokes.

At long last, and after much editing, I was ready to post it. As I scanned it one last time to make sure I hadn't missed a typo I noticed one of those little red circles with the x that you use to delete a box. I assumed that it was from the original copy that I had been using as a template and I didn't want that showing on my post.

Yep - you probably guessed it! I clicked on it and watched my entire post disappear. Gone, kaput, vanished off into cyberspace.

Did I scream, swear, throw things, stamp my feet or throw a tantrum you ask? Ten years ago I probably would have answered 'yes' to all of the above. You will be proud of me when I tell you that I didn't do any of those things. Well, save your pride. I didn't do them because I no longer have the energy it takes.

Instead of the giggle I wanted to give you, I am giving you a meme. So sorry!

And, no, I am not typing it over.

And, yes, you can laugh now.

I think you achieved your goal Darlene....this post was probably funnier than the jokes.

I'm glad you didn't get upset and stressed-out...it doesn't help anyway. Have a good weekend sweetie... Love, Joy

*Joy - Gee, thank you Joy. I feel better already having read your comment. I hope your weekend is going swimmingly.

You know what, your post is a great lesson, on how to slog, work hard to wards a goal, then wipe it all out in one shot, and still take it philosophically. Energy has nothing to do with it. Its all attitude ! And us footstamping cribbing types need to learn that fast.....

Darlene, you won't believe me, but I went through exactly the same drill to save the mail so that I could use parts of it and to send it on to my friends. Copy pasting itself was difficult and the subsequent effort was frustrating. I have finally done that. If you want it back, I shall gladly mail it to you.

Incidentally, you are linked to my latest post!

I can identify with that!!!!!

*Ugich Kontiari - I'm afraid I learned it the slow way. I think it took me a lifetime to discover that temper tantrums were counter-productive. ;-)

*Rummuser - I e-mailed my reply to you. Computers can really frustrate you, can't they?

*Kay - Yes, I know you had your share of computer woes.

I have to agree with Joy, I could so relate to this post and have to admit I'm glad it's happened to someone besides me! And all I could do at the time was laugh, too, definitely funnier than the jokes. Hope you have a great week, Darlene!

I've had that happen too, and most of the time, I just give up!

Darlene said...

*Sylvia - I know I am not alone in having this happen to me. Sometimes we have to laugh to keep from crying.

*Kenju - Who knows how many fascinating stories are flying around in cyberspace due to one unfortunate click?

Darlene, it's known as sod's law.

btw, a new photo without a glass in your hand? where's the glass? or more to the point, the contents of the glass?

Oh, Darlene, you did give us a laugh, thank you. In addition, you have impressed us all with your self control. There is probably no one on the internet who hasn't done the equivalent...or worse!

Years ago, I unintentionally wiped out the hard drive on a computer - that belonged to my boss. He was not at all tech savvy and I was doing him a favor. Little did I know that he had screwed up some security settings which (this is my story) led to my gaffe. That was before either of us was on the internet at work (it was pretty expensive for each person who was added and we didn't yet have enough net-based content to make it worth the money.)

Unfortunately, my boss died last fall. I miss him, even if I no longer saw him daily. He retired in 1998, and I retired in 2004.

The internet can be so frustrating and it really is either laugh or cry sometimes.

You know what,Darlene?

Somewhere in space,God only knows where, all the letters, stories, pictures, jokes and comments we have all lost in a flash, are circling around in the ether just looking for someplace to land.

You can bet on it, they will never come back to YOU...I'm still waiting for lots of stuff.

Been there, done that. :)

*Friko - I never heard of Sod's law. Is he related to Murphy?

*Cop Car - Self control would have been out the window if I wiped out my bosse's hard drive. You surpassed me with handling a difficult situation. Kudos!

*Looking to the Stars - I have done it more than once, but this one took the cake.

*Rummuser - Check today's e-mail. You should have one now.

*Rain - Sometimes we do both.

*Nancy - You got that right!

*la peregrina - If misery loves company I guess I have lots of it.

*Xtreme English - Thanks for understanding. I may not be losing it yet, but it's close.

*tnlib - What makes you think I didn''t? ;-)

I am not laughing, it has happened me in the past..... many times!

Darlene said...

*Grannymar - I am sure it has happened to anyone who uses one of these infernal gadgets. I sometimes think computers ere invented to drive us crazy.
