Big Trouble

If you don't think we are in trouble, read this.

I am so frightened for my country.  At no time since the Great Depression has good leadership been more important than right now.   And who are the leaders that the tea party are fronting?  Blithering idiots without a clue as to how to govern.  They are the puppets of big business.  Pretty women whose elevators don't go all the way to the top and who are so ideologically twisted that they would take us over the cliff if they get the chance.  Add men candidates who think the unconstitutional Arizona law is great and that privatizing everything is the way to go and these numbskulls  candidates are the ones that big business want you to vote for.

Our country is in big trouble on all fronts.   We were once the undisputed leader in the world and now China is about to clean our clock.  The things that will save us all run counter to the interests of big business.  Now that the Supreme Court has, in it's infinite stupidity, opened the floodgates to the money that big business can pour into our elections (and that will influence the outcome in their favor), we are fighting an uphill battle against the oil and coal companies, the insurance industry, and Wall Street.

The people could have stopped Hitler if they had acted soon enough and Rome might have survived if the populace had not become complacent.  We must not let our country go the way of other civilizations.

(I am aware that there were other factors involved in the 'take over' of Germany and the decline and fall of the Roman empire, but the people were complicit in both instances and could have made a difference.)

I hope you're mad as hell and aren't going to take it anymore.  Educate everyone you know and drag them to the polls, if necessary.  Only the people can stop this take over of our country by a few extremely wealthy individuals.

An excellent post and thanks for the link. I wonder how many people - the ones who really, really need to see Krugman's article - will read it. It scares the hell out of me.

Great post and links, Darlene.

Like tnlib said...how many who really really need to see it will or take the time to read?

Darlene, Just as anxious as you, heard an interview with Jon Stewart tonight with Terry Gross on NPR. He pointed out that we had a Civil War and survived that as a country. Yes, we have to believe in our cause, keep working to get people out to vote, but not let those turkeys get us down. Or whatever the expression is!

Great post, once again.

Though this video is tongue in cheek, I am sure there are those who would feel it is real.

Excellent!!!!!!! I just followed Frank Paynter's lead and re-published the Crabby Old Lady's blog. The state of the nation is appalling. It's time for Obama to take the kid gloves off and show 'em how to kick butt Chicago-style.

Excellent - at 5:00 am in the morning you have my heart beating at a rapid pace and ready to fight.

*tnlib - Unfortunately the ones who need to read it will never see it. They are too busy listening to Beck.

Cowtown Pattie - I don't think some of them can read. ;-)

*Joy Des Jardins - Politics is frightening now.

*Naomi Dagen Bloom - I guess we have survived worse, but it is still scary.

*Barry - Thanks for the link I will watch it as soon as I leave this page.

*Kay Dennison - I'm afraid that it's becoming obvious that Obama's style is more "Can't we all just get along?"

*One Woman's Journey - I don't want to cause you to have heart palpitations so early in the morning. Just help get out the vote.

Oy....you are so right it hurts. the thing that really got to me today was seeing the photo of those Tennessee firement standing around and watching a house burn. Keith Olbermann had a very touching interview with the man whose house it was. The "victim" (because that's what he was) at least made some sense. that may not be against any local laws in TN, but it's against moral law.

Darlene said...

*Xtreme English - It seems like moral law is no longer part of the culture. Sigh!

*opuj74D - Thank you for dropping by. I do hope you will stop in again.

The problem is not changing the tea partiers' minds. Can't be done. The issue is getting democrats and independents to think and vote. If enough do that, it doesn't matter what the far right does. So it's good to sing to the choir and get it motivated as we lose by us, not by them.

I'm feeling a good deal less demoralized about the state of our Union after being on the Nation Cruise. The key is community organizing and community action. Look for pressures on your community being exerted by malevolent outside forces and fight back. Win or lose, you are building solidarity. That is where political strength lies. We are not as isolated as we think; we need to start working together right where we are. If you can find a handful of like-minded people in your area, get together with them, choose a cause, and get to work!

*Rain - You summed it up so well.

*Hattie - Great advice.

*Cop Car - He He - that's what my Republican friend says to me. Maybe I am a tad opinionated? Naah, couldn't be. ;-)

You are writing some really important editorials, Darlene. Not just posts. Editorials that are passionate and timely and educational. I swear I would feel like giving up if I didn't come here and get another boost.

This piece was at another blog and after reading it last night I am grappling with my agreement with Chris Hedges. Because of that my bubble has burst but there is nothing like my fear and loathing of Republicans to get me back to the bubble factory, i.e., at least one local campaign as a volunteer (our extremely important gubernatorial election).

*Lydia - You do make me feel so good, Lydia. Thank you for the encouragement. We have to keep that "hope-y change-y' thing alive.

You and me both, Darlene! Just found out we'll be out of state for the election and have to arrange absentee ballots--gotta get busy! This post does its job of raising the alert wonderfully well.

I agree completely, Darlene and I am truly frightened, as I've said on my blog. Great post -- as always!!!!!!!!

*Nance - I hope you got your ballots in time.

*Kay - Thank you for agreeing and your kind words.
