I Was Cursed

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Some of you may remember that I was getting a new hip a year ago today after falling the day before.  Because I ended up at Urgent Care another Thanksgiving getting my head stitched up after another fall, I decided I was under a Thanksgiving curse.

The curse is still with me, only it's not my body that suffered this time.  Yesterday my computer crashed big time and I was unable to get the desktop, much less get on line.  I gave it up and read my book.

Then last night I turned a small portable heater on in my bathroom and closed the door so the room could warm up for my shower.  A few minutes later I tried to open the door.  It was locked.  Now I know the curse of the holiday was in full swing because I never lock that door.  I live alone and there has never been the necessity to do so.  Unfortunately, there was no way to open the door or remove the door knob.  I know that an evil elf put a Thanksgiving curse on me and locked that door.  Maybe it's my ghost from Thanksgiving past.  I must have failed to invite him to my feast one year.  (Memo to evil elf; enough already!!!!)

My good friend, who is also my computer guru, came over and helped with both problems.  He had to take a hacksaw to the door knob and use lots of energy trying to get it unlocked.  Then he tried to solve my computer mess and ended up reinstalling windows.  Of course I have lost my music, photos, programs, etc.  You know what I will be doing all week.

Therefore, I will probably not be posting or commenting on your blogs. I just want you to know that I will play catch up as time allows and hope you will stop by to see what I'm up to.  (Probably up to my ears in trouble.  Frustration will be my state of mind.  I will really need that 'Oh Shit' key on my keyboard. ;-).

Enjoy your feast and I will enjoy one tonight.  I have banished the curse with this post. Having exposed the witch or elf that cursed me I think I have put an end to Thanksgiving woes.

Oh my goodness, you stay home and get into a jam. Like you said, enough already!

How did your friend know you were in trouble and needed his help? Whatever it was, it was a good thing that he was there to help you. Did you have a portable phone?

Hope your computer troubles are over with and you get back on track soon.

Good luck and don't close any doors. ;-)

I stand with you banishing the wicked elf, no more we say to your wicked ways, be gone, be gone, be gone.

There, you should be free of the Thanksgiving curse.

Hope it doesn't take to long for you to put your stuff back on your computer.

You have a Happy Thanksgiving. One of the things I'm thankful for, is you being in my life. Thank you for being you :)

*Millie Garfield - No, I tried using a portable phone and couldn't hear on it so I am stuck with land phones. My friend knew because I called him for help. His wife is one of my best friends and she is understanding.

I now have the open door policy, Millie. :-)

*Looking to the Stars - Thank you for your lovely comment.

With your help, the evil elf is no banished forever.

are you sure that you don't have a poltergeist in your house? So many things going wrong without rhyme or reason doesn't bode well.

You have definitely had your share of computer woes and Thanksgiving curses. I pray this will be the end of it. I'm sending every positive vibe I can muster up to keep away any further curses, hexes, jinxes or voodoos that were even possibly thinking of coming your way. Good luck with getting your computer back into shape sweetie....we've all been down that road; but it goes faster than you think. Love, Joy

Darlene, I am so sorry to read this. I know how frustrating computer troubles can be, so I hope you are back to normal soon.

I can certainly empathize with your woes having had my share, too. Am delighted I can now actually read the comments and write responses on my blog, but am sad I've had to add CAPTCHA. I still have other computer issues I hope to resolve this weekend if my guru and I can connect.

My bathroom door knobs have a teeny tiny little hole in their center, so if it's locked, someone on the outside can stick a little wire in it and unlock. Have never tried it, so assume it works.

Sure am sorry you've had to go through all this -- the pits on a holiday.

I hope that everything worked out for you and that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thank Heavens, nothing more serious than these two events happened!

Have you tried Carbonite, the automatic backup service? It's only $55.00 It automatically backs everything up.

My husband uses it, because he uses his computer for his work. I don't, because almost all my work and photos I want to keep are online.
I'm glad you have help when you need it. Those falls are rough, I know, having taken a couple of doozies, both times from fainting. No broken bones (yet).

Darlene, I am so sorry all of this happened to you - you are one of the first people to respond to me when I started writing and your encouragement has meant so much to me. Wish I lived near where I could help you.
Take care, good luck wishes in all you have to put in order - is being sent to you.

sorry to hear about your thanksgiving day curse but at least the day is now past with no permanent consequences-- if we don't count the computer...

happy thanksgiving, in spite of it all, and happy holidays too!

Please tell me it wasn't something that I suggested that caused your computer to crash. I would feel awful!

I would have turned off the power to the bathroom until help arrived. That way the electric heater would not be running any longer if it was electric.

So sorry, Darlene! Thank goodness for your neighbor. If there's anything I can do to help when you're in a jam like that, let me know. I'll send you my phone number. I know, I'm far away, but I still might be able to call someone for you. Take care.

Thank you everyone for your comments and good wishes. I wish I could report that my woes ende with this blog, but my computer completely crashed. It seems the modem was faulty. My guru got me back on line last evening after I had spent about 6 hours with tech support and they were unable to do get me on line. Unbelivable.

I am still unable to access my e-mail so if you have written me I apologise for not answering.

I just couldn't let November go by without one medical mishap. Last night after my guru and his wife left I was coming in my front door after getting my mail and I fell on my back.

Thank God for my medical alert. The paramedics got me on my feet and I declined going to the hospital.

I am in a lot of pain, but I am sure I didn't do any permanenet damage. I will be sore for some time, I know, but it will heal.

I hope you are reading this because it's the only way I have to tell people why I am not on line.

Hope you feel better. We'll just have to keep in touch through blogs, that's all. I just wrote a story about medical alert devices and how important they are. Your experience underscores their value.
